How To:
- Place a Call in Teams Internally
Applies To:
- Those using the Teams Application or a Teams Yealink Phone.
- Please note that when using a Cisco Common Area Phone (CAP), you can only make calls by dialing a phone number directly.
Steps:
π Microsoft Teams makes it easy to place calls using either a 4-digit extension, or by searching for a user or a call queue (CQ) for a main or shared office line, or an auto attendant (AA) by name.
β
Options for Placing a Call:
-
By Extension: Simply type the 4-digit extension into the dialer and press Call.
-
By Name: Start typing the personβs name into the Teams search bar. When you see the correct person, select Call.
βοΈ Calling a Campus Main Office Line
If you're trying to reach a shared campus phone line, search for the Call Queue (CQ) name.
π Pro Tip:
Start your search with CQ-
followed by the name of the department.
This will ensure you get the correct call queue and not a generic or non-callable account.

β οΈ Important Note on Search Results
Teams pulls directory results globally, which means:
-
Keep in mind: Some accounts shown in search results may not have phone service, may be unattended, or may not be signed in.
-
Some generic or shared accounts may look similar to a call queue but may not be able to accept calls.
Example Search:
Conference & Scheduling
β Incorrect Search - This is a generic account and cannot receive calls

CQ-Conference and Scheduling
β
Correct Search - This is the call queue β select this one to place a call
Look for the headset icon next to the result to confirm it's a call queue.
