Using a VPN Connection on Mac when Off Campus

Steps:

In order to protect university resources and information, Remote Desktop Connection Protocol (RDP) will no longer be supported as a stand-alone connection. A VPN (Virtual Private Network) connection allows for safe, secure, traffic access to university resources when off campus. NOTE: You will not be able to test this connection when on campus. 


1. Go to Hornet365.com.Go to the tab for your role (Employees or Faculty) and then go to the Downloads button. Click the "Get VPN Client for MacOS" button. Then click Download.

1a) After downloading you may get this screen. At this point it is okay to download.

2.  Once the file is downloaded, open your Downloads folder or click the download in the download menu in your Google Chrome browser. Click the cisco-secure-client-macos-5.1.2.42-predeploy-k9.dmg

 


3.  Double click the cisco-secure-client-macos-5.1.2.42-predeploy-k9.dmg file to begin the installation. Click Install, then click Continue. Enter your Mac username and password. Click Agree on the license agreement.

3a) click Continue

3d) Click Continue

Note: At some point during the installation process your Chrome Window may open to install an extension called: ThousandEyes Endpoint Agent. This plugin is not required for the VPN to work and you can close out of that window. Afterwards proceed with the installation process.

3e) Click Install

3f) Type your password to sign into your computer then click Install Software

3g) Click Close

4.  Now that the VPN is installed you should be able to sign into the VPN while off campus. You can use these addresses to get connected:

esu-vpn1.emporia.edu

OR

esu-vpn2.emporia.edu

Note: If you are not able to sign-in and are sure that you are entering your username and password correctly then you may not have access to the VPN. You may also only connect to the VPN while off campus.
