Device Waiver Agreement

Agreement:

Emporia State University ("ESU") Information Technology ("IT") does not provide services for privately owned computers or mobile devices related to urgent, crucial, or time-sensitive data problems. In addition, IT does not provide hardware repairs, hard drive backup, or system/application software reinstallations for privately owned computers, mobile devices, phones, or peripherals. In those circumstances, the individual should take their equipment to a dealer, commercial data-recovery service, or a consultant of their choice.
As a courtesy to ESU students and employees, the IT Helpdesk will provide troubleshooting for computers and mobile devices, limited to assistance with issues surrounding connecting their device to the ESU Residence Hall Network, the ESU Wireless Network,,  at no charge under the following conditions:
  • The individual (student, faculty, or staff members) is responsible for backing up any data on the computer or mobile device.
  • Any time a computer or mobile device is accessed, there is a risk of damage including, but not limited to, permanent loss of data or programs, and total loss of functions of the equipment. This risk is increased when the comptuer or mobile device has been infected with viruses, worms, or other malicious software
  • ESU and IT are not responsible for the loss of any data caused by hardware or software failures.
  • IT will not provide any operating system or applications software to repair or restore the computer or mobile device to working conditions. This is the responsibility of the individual submitting the equipment.
  • ESU and IT are not responsible for the replacement of an individual's computer, mobile device, electronic equipment, or software. IT will not obtain or provide parts or components to repair the equipment and will not provide loaner equipment.
  • Equipment will only be received by IT during regular business hours at the Help Desk. IT will only accept the 1) actual desktop portion of a desktop computer system, 2) laptop and AC Adapter, 3) mobile device and power cable. No additional parts, such as keyboards, mice, monitors, carrying cases, printers, or software may be left with IT.
  • Personal equipment will not receive priority in troubleshooting assistance time. IT will work on the issues on an as available basis.
  • A liability waiver must be executed by the owner of the equipment prior to beginning any work.
By allowing ESU IT to work on your equipment, you may void any existing warranties on your equipment, preventing any future warranty repair or replacement from the manufacturer or authorized repair centers. ESU IT is not an authorized repair center for personally owned computer or mobile device equipment and disclaims any liability for unauthorized repair.
