iPhone Upgrade procedure

How To:

  • Prepare an iPhone for Upgrade 

Applies To:

  • ESU Staff with an ESU owned phone

Steps:

On the old phone

  • Back up the old phone to iCloud, then turn it off and pop out the SIM card.
  • If your iCloud is out of storage, you will need to purchase a storage plan from Apple, or delete items on your phone in order to do a backup.

On the new phone

  • Put the SIM card in the new phone, turn it on, and complete the setup, making sure to log into WiFi.
  • Once the setup is complete, go to Settings, Cellular, Cellular Data Options.  Make Sure Voice and Data is set to LTE, VoLTE ON, and that Roaming is set to Voice & Data
  • Go to Settings, Cellular, WiFi Calling.  Select WiFi Calling and accept the terms and conditions.  You will then be taken to a page that you have to fill out an address.  Use the primary address where you will be located when you are using the phone.  Select Submit.  Once it shows you  are now on WiFi calling, turn WiFi off.
  • Dial *99 and listen to make sure the voice says VOICE OVER LTE.  You should instantly receive a text message.  You can disregard and delete this message.
  • With WiFi off, place a test call, and also have someone make a test call to you.
  • With WiFi off, go into voicemail.  If the voicemail did not set up, click the box that states enter a code and dial 9999 to unlock the voicemail.
  • Once this is complete, your phone is now set up.  You can turn WiFi back on.

On the old phone

  • Once all of your apps and settings are restored to the new phone, turn the old phone back on, and make sure it is connected to WiFi.  Go to Settings, General, Reset, Erase all Content and Settings.  Once the phone is erased, put your name on a sticky note and attach it to the phone, and return the phone and charger to the Helpdesk.
